Polar Bear Diving is a Minneapolis-based diving company serving lakes, rivers, and marinas throughout the metro area and beyond. Whether it's a wedding ring at the bottom of Lake Minnetonka, a boat lift that won't sit level, or a hull that needs a closer look, we bring the experience and equipment to get it done right the first time.

No two bodies of water are alike, and neither are the people who live, work, and play on them. That's why Polar Bear Diving approaches every job with the discipline of naval training and the practical know-how of years spent diving and engineering off the Chilean coast. Today, that ocean-tested experience is focused on one thing: solving your underwater problems here in Minnesota.

Lost Item Search

It happens to everyone. One wrong move on the dock and your phone, keys, or wedding ring is gone. Before you write it off, give us a call. The sooner we get in the water, the better the odds, so reach out as soon as you can with the location and a description of what was lost.

Underwater ROV Operations

Some jobs call for eyes underwater without putting a diver in the water. Our remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) let us explore, inspect, and document conditions in deep, cold, confined, or hard-to-reach areas, with live video streamed to the surface so you can see exactly what we see. ROVs are ideal for quick preliminary surveys, inspections of intakes and outfalls, search and recovery scouting, environmental assessments, and monitoring structures over time.

Dock, Boat Lift & Mooring Work

Docks shift, lifts settle unevenly, and moorings wear down over time. We handle underwater installation, leveling, repairs, and inspections of dock footings, lift legs, and mooring anchors, so your waterfront is ready when the season is.

Commercial & Underwater Inspections

For marinas, municipalities, property managers, and contractors, we provide thorough underwater inspections of docks, seawalls, pilings, intakes, and other submerged structures. You'll get a clear report [with photos/video] so you can make informed decisions about maintenance and repairs.

Boat Inspections & Repair

Skip the haul-out when you can. We inspect hulls, props, shafts, and running gear in the water, and handle common repairs like propeller replacement, zinc anode changes, and clearing fouled lines. Great for pre-purchase checks or peace of mind before a long weekend on the water.

Salvage & Recovery

When something bigger than a set of keys ends up on the bottom, like a sunken boat, a snowmobile or ATV that went through the ice, an outboard motor, or a piece of equipment, we can bring it back up. We use lift bags, which are heavy-duty underwater balloons that we attach to the object and gradually fill with air. As they inflate, they gently raise it to the surface, where it can be towed to shore or loaded out. This controlled approach minimizes further damage to your property and to the lake bottom, and it often reaches spots where a crane or winch can't.

Invasive Aquatic Plant Removal

Eurasian watermilfoil and other invasive plants can take over a swimming area or boat slip fast. Our divers remove plants by hand, roots included, for targeted, effective control.

About

Polar Bear Diving's owner and operator began his journey to Minnesota's lakes on the coast of Chile. After attending the Escuela Naval "Arturo Prat," Chile's naval academy in Valparaíso, he joined his family's dive business, working in ocean diving and marine engineering along one of the most demanding coastlines in the world. Years of cold currents, open water, and complex underwater projects gave him a strong foundation in safe, skilled, and resourceful diving.

Now he's brought that experience to the Land of 10,000 Lakes. And while Minnesota's waters may be calmer than the Pacific, they come with challenges of their own: ice, murky visibility, soft lake bottoms, weeds, and conditions that change from season to season and from one lake to the next. No two bodies of water are exactly alike, and no two customers are either. That's why we take the time to understand each job and each person we work with, whether it's a homeowner missing a wedding ring or a marina planning a major inspection.

We named the company Polar Bear because, like the animal, we're at home in cold water and don't shy away from tough conditions. Minnesota lakes aren't the tropics, and that's exactly where we do our best work.
